Yard pooling
What? Water pools or creates soggy spots in the yard during and after rain storms. These spots can remain wet for days or weeks after a rain event. Why? Natural low spots and poor draining soils (compact, clay) prevent the surface water from draining down into the soil. A natural low spot may be amplifying this problem by collecting water from the surrounding landscape. Possible solutions - Catch basins, dry wells, and french drains are typical options here. These will be are installed underground with little surface interruption and allow the water to move off the surface and into the ground or directed to another area. Aesthetic enhancement options include our StreamStone Run ™ design.
Rain Barrel Configuration
What? Rain barrels are containers that temporarily collect stormwater, typically from roof runoff, temporarily. Why? The benefits of implementing rain barrels go beyond stormwater management into conservation. From a stormwater management standpoint the barrels act as a flex point in the system, slowing the amount of water that is entering the property. This reduces erosion and mitigates some other problem points on the property. The barrels can be configured so the stored water can be used for simply watering flowers or integrated with a pump for hose driven applications. Possible solutions - The standard application is to collect roof runoff from the downspout with a dump valve on the bottom for reuse. Advanced applications include linking multiple barrels and integrated pumps for other water uses.
Downspout Management
What? The control of structure runoff is the first step in a RRWM™ system for a property. Why? A 1000ft2 roof will generate over 600 gallons of runoff with 1” of rain. The mismanagement of that water can lead to water intrusion, erosion, and water pooling elsewhere on the property. Possible solutions - In ground piping with daylighted exits hidden in the grass or shrubs is the best visual approach. We can also connect multiple downspouts to a single exit location to direct water away from trouble areas of the property.
Sump Pump Discharge
What? Sump pumps are pumps typically installed in the basement of homes to pump unwanted water to the outside. Why? When not managed appropriately sump pump discharges can be unsightly and cause erosion, water pooling, and wet areas on the property. Possible solutions- Every discharge is different for every house and we use a core of best practices to meet the needs of the homeowner, both aesthetically and responsibly.
Design and Specification
Want to tackle the project yourself but need something to follow custom to your problems? We offer design and specification services to allow you to do the project as your time and costs allow. You will get a full design scope with details and product specifications unique to your property.
Channel Drains
What? Channel drains are installed in an impermeable surface to collect and redirect water Why? Channel drains are most commonly installed at the thresholds of garages, basement, and patios where the hardscape allows for water to pool or flow onto the structure. They can also be installed at low spots in driveways or patio where water is pooling. Possible solutions - Installing a channel drain typically involves cutting a channel (2-4") into the finished surface and digging out a trench underneath for clearance. A drain is installed and a runoff pipe connected to move the water to a better location away from the impervious surface.
